Review: The Night Watch

So tonight I watched the one off BBC 2 drama 'The Night Watch' which is set in London in 1947 with flashs back to 1944 and 1941. It tells the story of the entangled lives and love lives of the four main characters; these being Kay (played by Anna Maxwell Martin), Helen (played by Claire Foy), Viv (played by Jodie Whittaker) and Duncan (played by Harry Treadaway).

I thought the acting was very good and what you would expect from an all star cast that have all acted in WWII/historric dramas before. Some of the other cast members include: JJ Field, Claudie Blakely and Liam Garrigan.

The costumes as always in BBC historic dramas were amazing and left me with lots of inspiration for future outfit purchases (not neccessarily a good thing mind :p)

Overall I would highly recommend this programme as the end definitely left me wanting more, it has all the ingredients of a great drama, love, lose and suspense. The only other thing I will say is that if you are looking for a light hearted, fun filled drama this is probably not for you.

So hope you all enjoy watching it to and it is now available on BBC iPlayer.

Bits and Bobs

Oops, I have been so busy enjoying the summer holidays that I haven't got round to writing about any of the things I've been doing. So here is a round up of a few of the things I have been up to lately.

Firstly I have been volunteering as a room stuard (I even have my own name badge and everything) twice a week at one of my local stately homes called Doddington Hall, so if you are ever in the Lincoln area I highly recommend that you pay it a visit. http://www.doddingtonhall.com/

I have also finally got round to finally starting the restoration work on the 1940s kitchen cabinet I bought back in easter. So far I have cleaned it, sanded it all down and started painting the undercoat. I am aiming to have it finished by the end of summer and it will be painted in pretty much identical colours to when it was new.

Then last wekend me and my parents took a day trip to Harewood house in Yorkshire. It was a lovely day out with glorious weather, lovely food and there was even a bird garden with some seriously cute and some odd looking birds.

And finally, a few days ago me and two of my best friends took a photography trip to a local ruin.

I hope to post more regularly for the rest of the summer, starting with a review of The Night Watch, which airs tomorrow at 9pm on BBC2.

Enid

Source
This morning whilst browsing through BBC iPlayer I came across the BBC film Enid, I knew about this film when it first came out but unfortunately never got round to watching it. So this morning that's exactly what I did; now it's not the happiest of films, but it does follow the true life story of Enid Blyton. The good thing about it is that you can't argue that it is very well acted, the main actors being Helena Bonham Carter (playing Enid), Matthew Macfadyen (who played Hugh, Enid's first husband), Claire Rushbrook (who played Dorothy, Enid's friend) and Denis Lawson (who played Enid's second husband Kenneth).

I have to say though that one of the things I enjoyed most about this film was looking at the outfits Helena Bonham Carter got to wear, and here are my favourite outfits from the film:

I love this 1930s dress

I love the colour and pattern of this 1940s blouse

What you do when trying to avoid revision

Ok so I have an exam on Monday and Wednesday, but as I hate revision with a passion I seem to find myself pocrastonating instead, by searching on etsy and other wedsites for my perfect summer outfit or watching episodes of Foyle's War and Time Warp Wives for inspiration.

My land girl inspired outfit
I already own the overalls all I need now is a new blouse to go with them.

I have also come up with a plan for my summer for where I want to volunteer, what vintage events I want to visit, what I want to make and finally starting an etsy store.

And that is why I can't wait unitl the end of this week, because I get to finally go home and see all my family and friends and it will officially mark the end of my second year at university.

Unitl next time,
