Enid

Source
This morning whilst browsing through BBC iPlayer I came across the BBC film Enid, I knew about this film when it first came out but unfortunately never got round to watching it. So this morning that's exactly what I did; now it's not the happiest of films, but it does follow the true life story of Enid Blyton. The good thing about it is that you can't argue that it is very well acted, the main actors being Helena Bonham Carter (playing Enid), Matthew Macfadyen (who played Hugh, Enid's first husband), Claire Rushbrook (who played Dorothy, Enid's friend) and Denis Lawson (who played Enid's second husband Kenneth).

I have to say though that one of the things I enjoyed most about this film was looking at the outfits Helena Bonham Carter got to wear, and here are my favourite outfits from the film:

I love the colour and pattern of this 1940s blouse

What you do when trying to avoid revision

Ok so I have an exam on Monday and Wednesday, but as I hate revision with a passion I seem to find myself pocrastonating instead, by searching on etsy and other wedsites for my perfect summer outfit or watching episodes of Foyle's War and Time Warp Wives for inspiration.

I already own the overalls all I need now is a new blouse to go with them.

I have also come up with a plan for my summer for where I want to volunteer, what vintage events I want to visit, what I want to make and finally starting an etsy store.

And that is why I can't wait unitl the end of this week, because I get to finally go home and see all my family and friends and it will officially mark the end of my second year at university.

Unitl next time,

Here and There

Ok, so I have to admit I'm not the most consistent of bloggers, and over the last few weeks I've been very busy whilst also trying to enjoy the short break I have from uni. I will also apologise in advance if I don't post regularly in the coming month, as it's that time of the year again, exam period. Ok so apologies over, back to the real post.

I thought I would just do a quick post about a couple of the things I have be getting up to lately. Firstly, I went to Pembrokeshire in the first week of April on a geology field trip. We had lovely weather in the second half of the week which was good for all the walking along the coast we did visiting interesting rock outcrops everyday. But the best thing about the week was getting to spend it with some really great friends.

Kat and me

Then last weekend I went to Brodsworth Hall and Gardens for the day with my family. It was a lovely day, with the sun shinning. we had a lovely luch of chicken curry, made from a Mrs Beeton recipe, and then went and looked round the house which was very interesting. I think my favourite room in the house was a junk room which had lots of interesting odds and ends (including things such as wooden skies, a gas mask and old light bulbs, to a wooden sledge, old christmas wrapping paper and a pair of vintage ice skates) from all of the house's past eras.

Hope you've all been having just as good a time lately as me and have been enjoying the lovely sun shine (if you've had it).

Until next time,

So many clothes, so little money

Don't you always find (well at least I do anyway) that loads of lovely vintage iteams become available all at once, and it is always when you have the least money to spend. I find it is usually because when I have some money saved up it burns a whole in my pocket and I end up buying things that I like but am not neccessarily in love with.

For example, in the last few weeks I must have frittered away a fair chunck of my money on food and goodness knows what, and now a lovely 40s jacket that I have had my eye on for a while has suddenly been reduced to 50% off, but now I don't really have the money to afford it.

These are the times when I get irritated at being a student and not having an income of my own; luckily it will soon be easter and I will be able to earn some money to help towards my dwindling clothing allowance.

That's my little grumble for the day over.

Chester

So yesterday I went to Chester for the first time (since I was 18 months old, so that doesn't really count) with my friend Ellen; and had an amazing time looking round the shops, the historic buildings and the Cathedral.
As I intentionally didn't take much money (as I already have my eye on a pair of trousers from Heyday) I only ended up buying a new cardigan and some socks from H&M.
And for lunch, which was gorgeous as always, we went to Cafe Nero which I love.

Here are just a few photos from the day.

So overall it was a great day and I hope to go back to Chester at some point in the future, hopefully when the weather is a little better.
